Should I get tested for hepatitis C?

The recommendation to test people born between 1945 and 1965 (the baby boomers) for hepatitis C has existed for more than five years. However, recent improvements in treatment have increased the interest in identifying people with hepatitis C, whether or not they consider themselves at risk. It is assumed that most baby boomers with hepatitis C acquired it when they were young in the 1960s and 1970s. Equipment used in injecting drugs, shared personal hygiene items (like razors and toothbrushes), and sexual partners are all possible sources of exposure to hepatitis C.
